We treat a variety of diseases and conditions including:

• Benign anal rectal disorders (such as hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas and rectal tumors)
• Cancer of the colon, rectum and anus
• Diverticulitis
• Fecal incontinence (through surgical and innovative non-surgical approaches, including sacral nerve stimulation, a therapy that uses electrical stimulation of the peripheral nerve supply to the anal sphincter muscles)
• Inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis)
• Perirectal abscess
• Pilonidal cysts
• Rectal prolapse

Our highly skilled surgeons have years of experience performing a variety of minimally invasive and complex surgical procedures, including:

• Advanced endoscopic techniques
• Advanced laparoscopic procedures (including colon resections)
• Robotic surgery
• Colon and rectal surgical oncology

We review each case on an individual basis to determine which surgical procedure or minimally invasive approach is best suited for the patient, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Our surgeons are also among a handful of physicians in South Florida who are trained in transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS), a less invasive hybrid approach for the surgical removal of benign or pre-cancerous rectal tumors as well as polyps that are too big to be removed with a colonoscope. By threading a scope through the rectum to the site of the tumor, colorectal surgeons use highly specialized laparoscopic tools to remove the tumors in questions. TAMIS offers many benefits to patients, including:

• Shorter procedure time
• Less pain
• Quicker recovery time

The division is also home to an anorectal physiology lab where expertly trained medical staff can perform:

• Anorectal ultrasounds (for the staging of rectal cancers)
• Anorectal manometry (to measure the tone of the anal sphincter and rectal muscles)
• Ultrasound imaging (to examine sphincter muscles for incontinence)

Through multidisciplinary clinics, our surgical practice also works collaboratively with oncologists from the Memorial Cancer Institute to provide expert care to patients with various forms of colorectal cancer. These clinics, along with weekly tumor boards, allow our surgeons to consult with other specialties, including radiology, pathology and medical oncology, to provide patients with the complete continuum of care.

• Enterostomal therapy (ET) nurses (specializing in the care patients who undergo colostomy or ileostomy)
